Geographical Setting
Getafe is a municipality located to the south of the Community of Madrid, just 12 kilometres from the centre of the capital. Its proximity to the centre has given rise to rapid growth and industrial development, and with its near 164,000 inhabitants, it has become one of the most populated areas in the metropolitan region of the capital.
Getafe’s importance also comes from its military airbase, one of the first and oldest in Spain and the Cerro de los Ángeles – considered the geographical centre of the Iberian Peninsula.
In this regard, the municipality is a reference for large industrial catalysts in innovative sectors that have chosen Getafe as a base (including Siemens or EADS CASA, which plays a role in the construction of the giant Airbus A380), finding auxiliary or service firms in the area which aid joint collaboration and service.
